A caster may look simple, but it has to carry load, start moving without excessive effort, swivel in the intended direction and keep rolling after thousands of floor joints and direction changes. A useful caster test programme therefore checks more than static load capacity.

What Does a Caster Testing Machine Measure?

A caster testing machine reproduces defined loads and movements in a controlled laboratory environment. Depending on the design, it can evaluate rolling endurance, obstacle impact, starting force, swivel resistance, brake life, tread wear and temperature rise.

Brake life testing is particularly relevant for medical equipment, mobile workstations and transport carts that must remain stationary during use. The test plan should define the number of cycles, operating rate, actuator position and inspection intervals before testing begins.

Heavy-Duty Casters and Drive Wheels Need a Different Test Range

Furniture caster equipment is not automatically suitable for forklift, pallet-truck or automated warehouse wheels. Heavy industrial products need higher load capacity, suitable fixtures and enough clearance for larger wheels.

Standards should not be selected by product name alone. Buyers should confirm the load, test distance, obstacle height, speed, brake cycle and acceptance criteria required by the current standard or customer specification.

How to Choose the Right Caster Test Equipment

Why monitor temperature during endurance testing?

Rising wheel or bearing temperature can indicate increasing friction, lubrication problems or material deformation. Temperature is best interpreted together with rolling performance and physical inspection.
